XBLA Gamerscore Cap to Increase

Remember way back in the day? Like, way, way back in the day? Back in simpler times where retail games capped at 1000G and Xbox LIVE Arcade games capped at 200?

Microsoft apparently caught wind of the fact that people kind of like gamerscore, or at least the pursuit thereof, and since then DLC with added achievements has vastly changed the gamerscore caps for Xbox 360 titles. We all know that many retail titles go to 1750G and, later this month, Gears of War 3, will top out at 2000 points.

While all of that has been going on for retail titles, Arcade games have also seen an increase, with games eligible to receive up to an additional five achievements worth 50 gamerscore for a maximum of three quarters. This means that some XBLA titles, such as Worms 2: Armageddon, top out at 350G.

According to an unnamed source cited by x360a, the cap on Xbox LIVE Arcade games is set to rise in the near future. For starters, instead of games having a max of 20 achievements worth a total of 200G, games will now start out with 400G spread out across a maximum of 30 achievements. DLC will now bring up to an additional 32 achievements (up to 8 new achievements per quarter for up to four quarters) and 400G (up to 100G per quarter for up to four quarters) for a possible grand total of 62 achievements worth 800G.

Games released between April 1st and May 31st may choose to be on either the old system or the new one. If the rumor proves true, all games will have to switch to the new system by June 1st.
