"Play to Earn" Rewards 360 Users for Purchases and Play

Xbox Live Rewards has been around for a while and allows users chances to get free points through taking surveys, renewing Gold membership, and various other things. Today, Major Nelson revealed a new offshoot of this program which is called Play to Earn. Starting in April, this new program will track player purchases and play to reward them accordingly.

Users are still able to participate in the standard Xbox Live Rewards tasks, but Play to Earn gives back to players who simply make a lot of purchases or play their games. For the month of April, playing four XBLA games for 20 hours or more gives back an avatar item. If four XBLA games are purchased at 400 Microsoft Points or more, then you'll be gifted a month of Xbox Live Gold. Finally, if you spend 3200 Points, you'll get back 800.

So far, it seems that Microsoft is heading in the right direction although they may want to amp up the prize for being a dedicated Xbox player. Either way, the incentive of giving players something back for contributing to Microsoft's economy is a smart one.

Ever wondered why an website is taking so long to load, or why an online multiplayer game is lagging? It could be a network issue, but can you be sure? Yes you can if you have a handy network speed meter in your Android device’s notification drawer. I wonder why there isn’t one by default, but if you wish you had one, try Network Speed.
Network Speed puts a simple speed indicator in the notification drawer of Android that shows real-time throughput of the phone’s network connection – be it 3G, EDGE, GPRS or Wi-Fi. The icon in the notification drawer flashes whenever there is network activity in either direction – upload and download. Pulling the notification drawer down shows the actual speed. Optionally, Network Speed can also show IP address and Wi-Fi ESSID.

A tap on the app icon opens the graph view that plots network speed over time.

Network Speed is a free app and works on all Android devices running version 1.51 and up.

Danish News Station Mistakes Assassin's Creed Rendering For Syrian Skyline

Because fact-checking is for people who don't have GOOD GUT INSTINCTS, a Danish news station recently displayed a rendering of Damascus from Assassin's Creed instead of the current Damascus skyline like they intended. One of the TV channel's employees had found the image online and thought it was a photo of Damascus' skyline.
[TV2 Head of News Jacob] Nybroe says it was a terrible mistake and a "reminder to us all of the importance of verifying the sources of pictures."

Honestly I am fairly disappointed with the pre-order and premium content from Black Ops 2.

First they offered Nuktown 2025 as a pre-order only bonus, then they took it away completely. Only after the uproar of upset users did they add it back to only certain playlists.. Now they give it away free.

Second they offered Nuketown Zombies with the higher tiers game bundles, then they give it away free for season pass holders.

So what did I get from my pre-order again???? Not cool... cot cool...

Borderlands 2 - New DLC Charater Revealed at SXSW

During a panel at SXSW, Borderlands 2 developer Gearbox has revealed a new vault hunter is coming to its RPG-fueled first-person shooter.

"Deep beneath Pandora, an experiment has escaped," a teaser for the DLC announced, revealing a silhouette of the new character decimating enemies. "Bandits beware, a new vault hunter is coming. More mayhem awaits."

Details for the second add-on character were scarce, much like the Pandora wasteland; however, the teaser (which you can view below) leads us to believe the new character is melee-focused. Gearbox franchise director Matt Armstrong wouldn't reveal the exact release for the DLC during the panel but added, "DLC is announced on a very tight schedule, and I don't think you'll have to wait long until you see that character."

Injustice: Gods Among Us - Battle Edition

Injustice: Gods Among Us hits retail shelves in North America on April 16. Warner Bros.

The Battle Edition, not to be confused with the already revealed Collector's Edition, costs $149.99, and PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are coming to GameStop and EB Games stores in the US and Canada. The big inclusion, as you can see above, is the special fight stick controller, along with three DLC skins of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman as they are in DC Comics' The New 52 revamp. Among other features, the fightstick offers "adjustable illumination" for the joystick and buttons, just in case you're picky about how your controllers light up.

I have actually been shopping fight stick recently since my son has suddenly got into Mortal Kombat amd Street Fight games , I thought he would love this, but for a decent stick they run you $80+, I think I am going to get this before it is sold out.

The Battle Edition is only sold at Gamestop and EB Games.

Keep in mind, if you pre-order the game. You will also receive the Red Son Story line with 20 extra missions along with the Red Son Skins.

Microsoft to discontinue the Gold Family Pack

Microsoft has confirmed to Joystiq that they have discontinued the popular Gold family pack. What this means for current Family gold pack customers is that their family center settings management suite is still available for them... at this time.

When asked why this bundle which for just $99.99 gave the user four year long gold subscriptions they responded the following:

"We continually evaluate our business focus and work to offer services that make the most sense for our customers and Xbox."
